Registration
To register for a Walk in your area, visit the Walk Location page and register online or contact your local Walk Coordinator to register by mail. There is a $10 registration fee that entitles each registrant to a Walk for Farm Animals t-shirt to be picked up on the day of the Walk. If you are registering by mail, please turn in your registration fee to your local coordinator no later than three weeks prior to the Walk. A printable registration form is available on the Walk Location page page for your town. You must pre-register in order to guarantee that you will receive a t-shirt. T-shirts will be distributed to registered walkers the day of the Walk. Pre-registration for the Walk is strongly encouraged. If you register the day of the Walk, the fee is $15 and unfortunately we cannot guarantee that you will receive a t-shirt.

Pledges
After you register as a walker, you will begin collecting pledges-usually a set donation rather than a certain dollar amount per mile. If you register online, you will create a personal fundraising page that you will email to all your friends, co-workers and family to start raising money. You will also want to collect pledges in person from anyone you know who does not have email access. (Please be sure to write clearly, including the names and addresses of all sponsors, on the pledge form.) Offline pledges must be collected before the Walk and turned in to your Walk-a-thon coordinator the day of the Walk.

When soliciting pledges, we suggest a minimum of $20 — which entitles the sponsor to a Farm Sanctuary membership and newsletter subscription. It is often helpful to give sponsors pledge suggestions, for example: “A $50 donation will pay for the feed and care of an abused chicken for five months!” Friends, relatives and fellow students or employees are the most likely candidates. Neighbors, particularly ones with animals, are often good sources too. Don’t be afraid to ask anyone you know. Most people are accustomed to contributing to worthy causes, and they will be pleased that they are being given an opportunity to help end animal suffering!

Remember: Don’t be shy. Every pledge you receive will help save the lives of abused and neglected animals, and that’s something to be proud of! Please be sure to write clearly, including the names and addresses of all sponsors, on the pledge form.

Sign Up Early

Please call early to sign up with your local Walk-a-thon coordinator or register online.

Walking Time
The Walk-a-thons usually take about two hours to complete. Everyone is encouraged to take as much (or as little!) time as they need to make the Walk an enjoyable experience. Call your local coordinator to find out the specific details about the Walk in your area.

Clothing
Plan on picking up your t-shirt at the Walk and wearing it to show your support! Wear comfortable walking shoes and heavy socks. It is generally best to wear layers of clothing. A knapsack is also a handy item for a Walk-a-thon. Don’t forget a hat and/or sunglasses!

Rain or Shine!
The traditional Walk-a-thon rule is rain or shine — the Walk will only be rescheduled in the event of severe weather (tornadoes, heavy rainstorms, hurricanes). If in doubt, please call your Walk-a-thon coordinator to confirm any changes.
